RESEARCH TOPICS
COASTAL ENGINEERING
Coastal engineering is my specialty, with a particular focus on numerical modeling. I am dedicated to providing solutions to challenges in coastal development, which requires an in-depth understanding of coastal processes and their interactions with structures. This field of study encompasses the analysis of waves, hydrodynamics, and sediment transport, as well as their interactions with coastal structures and interventions.
OCEAN WAVES
Waves are a crucial design parameter for offshore structures, and I am particularly interested in wave characterization for both functional and structural design. My focus includes analyzing the effects of climate change on waves to establish non-stationary climates, thereby reducing the probability of failure.
OCEAN CURRENTS
I am interested in studying currents and their impact on environmental processes. Specifically, I have been involved in research on oil spills and sargassum beach landings, where understanding currents is crucial for developing effective warning systems and responding efficiently to contingencies.
EXTREME EVENTS
Extreme events are crucial in determining structural design conditions, making their study essential for the proper design of maritime structures. Additionally, extreme events can lead to disasters, making their study vital for development planning and the creation of contingency plans. In the projects I have participated in, we have focused on tropical cyclones and Nortes, particularly their impact on waves and storm surges. This includes the development of rapid forecasting systems for Mexico.
RENEWABLE ENERGIES
I am convinced that the Yucatan continental shelf is truly "the treasure" of Mexico. Therefore, I am interested in studying its wind potential and the interaction between the ocean and wind turbines.
CLIMATE CHANGE
The effects of climate change are already a reality, and we must account for them in maritime engineering projects and development planning. I am particularly interested in studying how climate change will impact design parameters and its influence on natural disasters. In the studies I have participated in, we have characterized the climatology of tropical cyclones and Nortes under climate change scenarios, along with their associated waves. This research facilitates better planning for development projects.
